Chirachai Siamese

Our Own Cats

Chirachai Fraser 24bImage of Fraser
Fraser, as he is known, was bred by us in 1995, when we were breeding Siamese the first time round (see How it Started). Although he has often pretended not to like cuddles, and likes to swagger about, he is secretly very attached to us and the 'girls', Lili and Sophie, and gives us all a big 'ticking-off' if left on his own! As he is neutered, he is allowed a certain amount of outdoor access and, when he first started hunting, once brought a 'road-kill' rabbit back from the country lane we lived on at the time and tried to drag it through the catflap!  Now a more elderly age, he suffers from chronic asthma and doesn't get into quite so much mischief. Happily, his asthma is currently well-managed and isn't cramping his style too much!

Lili was bred by Kate Ramsay in Blairgowrie and was born in August 2002. When we lost Mistra (see How it Started for Us), the whole family - and especially Fraser - was lost without her. We decided that it was time to return to the world of showing and breeding Siamese cats and set about looking for a new female kitten as a potential breeding queen, and of course, new pet for the family. Lili has filled most of those shoes very well. We don't show her because she has an unfortunate habit of plucking her fur out! However, this has improved, of late, and she might venture out on to the showbench again one day.  She remains very shy, however, and may not take to showing at the age of 4!

Lili had her first litter of kittens in November 2003 and was a very good mum. She also managed not to lose condition herself and coped well with the kittens leaving for their new homes in February. Her second litter was born in August 2004 and, unfortunately, didn't go entirely to plan. Two of the litter had died in utero causing problems with the birth and she ended up having a caesarian section. However, the two surviving kittens were big, healthy, happy boys - both Seal Points. Lili went to stud for the last time in June 2005 with the hope that our vet was right and that the previous kittening problems were unlikely to occur again. Sadly, this was not the case and Lili had a very similar experience with no signs of problems until the birth started. After much to-ing and fro-ing from home to vets, scans to check on the condition of the kittens and giving Lili every opportunity to go into labour herself naturally, she had to be sectioned after labour didn't progress normally. Out of three kittens conceived, one had died earlier in the pregnancy, one had died within days of the section and there was one survivor. Chirachai Merlin grew normally and went to his new home with owners Dawn and Steve and lives as part of a multi-cat and dog household in the countryside. (Merlin was later found to be a girl! and continues to live happily with Dawn and Steve).  Lili was neutered in December 2005 and is now enjoying the freedom of going outdoors on a regular basis when the weather allows. Lili's daughter, Sophie, is also a breeding queen and went to live with Lili's breeder, Kate Ramsay, where she is spoilt rotten.

Sinope Sophia 24 a (Blue Point)

Image of SophieSophie, as we call her, joined us at the end of February 2006. She was bred by Honor and Roger Single in Frome, Somerset. She's a super little Blue Point with a wonderful personality. She has settled in really well and has easily won the hearts of everyone who has met her. She will, hopefully, go on to have lots of lovely, healthy kittens just like her but only time will tell. We are thrilled to welcome her to our family as one of our pets. One of her unique idiosyncracies seems to be a real liking for granary bread and other cereal-based products but her tastes in food are very wide-ranging and, doubtless, we haven't discovered all her peculiar tastes in this line as yet.  Sophie has now been to stud for the first time and we are now playing the waiting game to see whether she has become pregnant.
